WA Notify lets Washington residents self-report a positive COVID-19 test so people who were near them get an anonymous exposure alert — but only if they finish the flow. We ran moderated usability tests with ten participants (five iOS, five Android) on a Figma prototype and affinity-mapped the results. The interface itself tested well; the friction was around it — confusing terminology (verification code, random ID), an unclear privacy policy, and people not knowing where Exposure Notifications live on their phone. The DoH team got prioritized recommendations on wording, information density, and communicating the feature's impact.
